| Tetouan is situated slightly inland from the Mediterranean Sea , just 40km east of Tangiers in the north most tip of Morocco . In 2003 it was estimated that the population was 320,000. The setting of Tetouan is beautiful due to the dramatic mountains in the south and west going right across the valley from which Tetouan rises. The nearest airport is Tangiers but from March it will have its own airport. Tetouan can boast 320 days of sunshine a year with the average Summer temperature being 35 degrees and 22 degrees in the winter. There is a fully equipped marina on the coast with luxurious 5 and 6 star hotels. There are amazing restaurants, clubs, pavement cafes, markets, snake charmers and night life. Most sports can be found in the surrounding areas including skiing, winter sports and hunting in the Atlas mountains, golf, hiking, shooting, archery, windsurfing down to camel riding in the Sahara desert to name but a few. Tetouan is a centre for trading in agricultural products such as grain, citrus fruit, livestock, crafts and vegetables and industries include the manufacture of soap, cigarettes, matches, flour, textiles and other building materials together with printing, cabinet-making and fish canning. |
